Wine of Moldova is becoming increasingly appreciated worldwide. During November, Moldovan still wines, sparkling wines and divins were awarded with gold and silver medals in major international competitions: “Effervescents du Monde” (France) and “International Wine Contest Bucharest” (Romania).
“Effervescents du Monde”, one of the most important international competitions for sparkling wines, took place in the French city of Dijon on November 14-16. This year’s edition gathered representatives of wine companies from 22 countries of the world, 594 high-quality wines and 40 international jurors, including a representative of the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV). The Republic of Moldova was present in the contest with 22 sparkling wines from 9 wineries, under the umbrella of the country wine brand “Wine of Moldova. A Legend Alive”.
Following the evaluations, Wine of Moldova won 12 medals, including 2 gold medals for the sparkling wines “Purcari 1827 – Cuvée de Purcari Rosé Brut” and “Purcari 1827 – Cuvée de Purcari Alb Brut” – the latter ranked among the top 10 sparkling wines of the competition.
The members of the jury awarded 10 silver medals to the following wines:
“Cuvée de Purcari – Fetească Albă Brut” (Purcari)
“Apriori Extra Brut” (Consalcom)
“Mileștii Mici Alb Brut” (Mileștii Mici)
“Bostavan Dor Alb Brut” (Bostavan)
“Fresco Glera Spumant Original Brut” (Romatim)
“Rădăcini Reserve Brut” (Albastrele Wines)
“Nisporeni Roșu de Nisporeni Dulce” (Nis-Struguraș)
“Cricova Cuvée Prestige Alb Brut” (Cricova)
“A priori Aprisecco Brut” (Consalcom) and
“Aurelius Limited Edition Brut Rosé” (Maurt).

At the same time, at the beginning of November, 47 wines and divins were awarded gold and silver medals at the “International Wine Contest Bucharest 2018” (IWCB), this edition being held in Iasi. The Republic of Moldova participated with 100 wines and Moldovan winemakers returned home with 37 gold and 10 silver medals. Most gold medals were won by the winery “Fautor” (9 medals), followed by “Chateau Vartely” (6 medals) “Vinăria din Vale” (3 medals) and Purcari (3 medals).
Elizaveta Breahna, coordinating expert in winemaking, National Office for Vine and Wine, member of the jury: “The 15th edition of the ‘International Wine Contest Bucharest 2018’ was a good one for Wine of Moldova, which managed to win dozens of gold and silver medals. We are very happy with these successes, given that the judging rules in this competition are extremely strict, in accordance with the requirements of OIV.”
In the IWCB, 600 samples from 14 countries were assessed, this being the only competition in Central and Eastern Europe accredited by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and the World Federation of Major Wine and Spirits Contests (VINOFED), institutions that have also delegated observers to the contest.
