The Wine of Moldova from the regions with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) has impressed again at “ProWein” – the largest exhibition dedicated to wine and spirits in Europe. The 25th edition of the event took place between 17th- 19th of March in the German city of Dusseldorf.
Our country has been remarked not only for the good wines, but also for a unique stand with an area of 18 square meters for the “Wine of Moldova” country brand. The visitors to the stand were invited to “travel” through all three regions with PGI – “Stefan Voda”, “Codru” and “Valul lui Traian”, enjoying local wines and the “terroir” in the special tasting areas. Millennial winemaking traditions, Moldovan vineyards and the main tourist attractions have been discovered and admired on a 60 square meter LED display, installed at the stand, and through a virtual reality platform as well. The well-known experts and Masters of Wine Caroline Gilby, Sarah Abbott and Robert Joseph talked about the evolution of the wine sector in recent years and organized tastings of quality wines from the 3 regions with PGI.
With the support of the National Office for Vine and Wine, responsible for the Republic of Moldova’s participation in this event, the 39 wineries offered 450 wines and “divins” for tasting to the approximately 60,000 visitors from over 130 countries of the world: distributors, importers and experts in the field.
Gheorghe Arpentin, director of the National Office for Vine and Wine: “‘ProWein’ is the most important trade exhibition for wines from Europe and not only. This is the place where the professionals meet, and for the Republic of Moldova the event is symbolic. 5 years ago, ‘ProWein’ hosted the international launch of ‘Wine of Moldova. A legend alive’, the wine country brand which brought together all Moldovan producers under its umbrella. During this period, Wine of Moldova has registered many successes and has been awarded thousands of medals in international competitions, of which only the last year – over 550 medals.”
The Moldovan wines appreciated at the recent ‘MundusVini’ competition, could also be enjoyed in the area of the most awarded wines all over the world, specially arranged in the ‘ProWein’ pavilion. This year, 42 wines were awarded, 19 of which – gold and 23 – silver medals, and two of them received the great ‘Best of Show’ distinction as well. These successes provided Moldova with a venerable place alongside the 60 most known wine regions and nations present at ‘ProWein’. Thus, the most appreciated Moldovan wines could be tasted by all the guests of he event.”
The successes recorded by Wine of Moldova over the years, the medals won, as well as the presence of the Republic of Moldova at the “Prowein” exhibition, have been featured in the most important international specialized magazines, such as “Sommeliers International”, “Wine Business International” (www.meininger.de), international press agencies in Europe (Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau, news aktuell Schweiz AG, APA-OTS , Europa Press, Adnkronos, PAP , CTK , and also specialized bloggers.
