Wine of Moldova becomes a constant presence in the most important international events. For the first time, 21 wineries gathered under the umbrella of the country’s wine brand participated in the “Salon Food & Spirits” exhibition organized by the “Sommeliers International” magazine, held a week ago in the city of Bordeaux – the home of legendary French wines. The presence of Moldovan winemakers at the event was possible thanks to the support provided by the National Office for Vine and Wine.
The exhibition is of strategic importance to the wine sector and annually gathers winemakers from all over the world. This year 59 exhibitors presented their high quality products, which were appreciated by more than 900 visitors, including merchants, restaurateurs, sommeliers, bartenders and importers.
Gheorghe Arpentin, director, National Office for Vine and Wine: “ONVV continues to support winemakers’ efforts to record new successes and diversify their export markets. The presence of the country wine brand “Wine of Moldova. A Legend Alive” at an event held in one of the world’s most important wine regions can only bring us benefits. We participated in the exhibition with wines created in areas where the climate is practically identical to that of Bordeaux. I am convinced that tasting Moldovan wines will be at least interesting for the French connoisseurs.”
After the exhibition in France, Wine of Moldova was rated with the highest marks in the “Inside Spirits Competition”, organized by the magazine “Sommeliers International”. Following the tastings and evaluations, 14 Moldovan producers were awarded. Therefore, the country wine brand has completed its record with 2 gold medals, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals.
Wine of Moldova conquers world-class experts
During the same period, the director of the National Office for Vine and Wine, Gheorghe Arpentin, had a meeting with one of the best-known Master Sommeliers, President of the Sommelier Association of Hong Kong and China – Nelson Chow. The discussions culminated with the tasting of several samples of “Wine of Moldova”, made of the indigenous Feteasca Alba and Feteasca Neagra varieties. Also, partnership was established for collaboration on the Chinese market, where local wine companies participate actively at the largest exhibitions and trade fairs. In April 2019, Nelson Chow will visit our country, to deepen knowledge of Wine of Moldova.
Nelson Chow, Master Sommelier, president of the Sommelier Association in Hong Kong and China: “Wine of Moldova is distinguished by its high quality and carries a distinctive and authentic impression granted by the indigenous varieties grown in the vineyards of this country. These characteristics, which are its distinctive sign, guarantee Moldovan wines a great popularity in China. And for Wine of Moldova to become even more demanded on one of the largest markets in the world, there is a need to organize events aimed at educating local consumers.”
